Lesley Evans from Hawthorn High School has been busy authoring GCSE Biology resources for WJEC. Here’s a brief insight into the resources:
The WJEC B2 GCSE course is a really exciting course and contains many great opportunities for practical work in the classroom however, far too often there are practical activities we would love to introduce our students to but can be far too time consuming, costly or difficult to resource.
This is why when asked if I would collaborate on digital resources to enhance the course I jumped at the chance.
The digital resources we have created demonstrate a range of the suggested practical activities in the course. They are interactive and can either be run as a class activity on an interactive whiteboard. Pupils can also work through the activity alone by filling in the accompanying worksheets which allow them to gather data and analyse results as if they had actually carried out an experiment themselves.
Alongside the interactive experiments there are digital resources which contain animations to demonstrate certain concepts, literacy starters to highlight key words and revision aids like big picture mats, tarsia puzzles and multi-choice quizzes for each topic.
All of these resources are tailored to support the WJEC B2 course.
It has been a great opportunity to be able to design the kinds of activities I would love my students to be able to experience to enhance their learning and increase their understanding of the important biological concepts in the course.
It has been an amazing experience and I hope the resource packs will provide teachers of the WJEC B2 GCSE access to course specific, colourful, engaging and fun activities to really bring this Biology course to life.
