The Caribbean island of Grand Cayman makes an interesting case study of a coastal destination. This comprehensive study, which can be used to support Level 2 and Level 3 specifications, considers a range of aspects of tourism.
Grand Cayman relies heavily on tourism. Unlike many areas of the Caribbean the Cayman Islands are seen as a very safe destination with low crime rates. Tourism has been focused on the coastal areas in the past with large scale hotel and resort development centred along the Seven Mile Beach area, which is often referred to as one of the best beaches in the Caribbean. The case study also focuses on the impacts of tourism on the destination and recent attempts to develop more sustainable projects.
